The goal is to rehabilitate the lens of the eye and recover visual acuity and the accommodative function of earlier years.Whatever the substances are that are producing the cloudy lens, there needs to be some sort of circulation going on within it, exchange of fluids in both directions across cellular membranes.
Those cells in the nucleus of the lens may be reacting to ionic transport pumping. I have a theory that a persons first and more advanced cataract is generally in the eye which was the weaker of the two even prior to the cataract. I have not seen any data on this. The idea may have no merit at all.
But back to fluid exchange. Can cataracts be forming due to a failure or diminution of the normal circulatory process? Due to a change in viscosity of the fluids? From dehydration due to failure to drink sufficient water? What other kinds of fluidic transfer could be playing a part? What about the flexure of the lens itself? Could there be a relationship between the reduction of the ability to flex the lens and a reduction of fluid exchange? Are the inclusions causing the reductions of clarity of vision within the cells of the lens or between them? The answers to these questions will bear on how to solve the problem.

Actually Deanna, prior to the attractive greeter, I had posted a picture of Ron Paul and the sign on his desk saying "Don't Steal -- The Government Hates The Competition.
Before that I put up a picture of me in one of the earlier threads, looking a little like Mr. Magoo at a chessboard.
Judging from Richard Feynman and a fairly large assortment of other notable theorists I can think of, they will probably not be put off by her... In a sense, this too is an anthropological exercise like your Free Hugging event. Look at the interesting information you got out of that in one day.
Looking at the rest of the world of blogs, without putting out various search engine spider baits and other incentives, most hardly ever get a single serious or thoughtful comment.
It is quite a surprise to me that I have seen no real back-and-forth dialogues or debates or brainstorming sessions involving three or more people in the blog world. Lots of rants and diatribes, including one or two of my own, but no ongoing conversations.
I don't know why I thought cataract blindness would be a hot topic. I rarely thought about eye disease myself before it struck me.
We seem to ignore a lot of important problems until there is a felt need of some sort which compels us to pay more attention.
If I had simply noticed what was happenning with the eye a few years earlier, perhaps the cataract could have been arrested at an earlier stage.
Why are we so dependent on optometrists and ophthalmologists for eye care? Should we not know enough about our eye anatomy to be able to identify our own cataracts at an earlier stage?
But getting back to your hugging experiment. Was there some particular impetus for that? Some novel idea that you wanted to test?
